Steam Railway Support throughout the UK
Bells & Two-Tones have, over the last ten years, been actively supporting Steam Train operations on the Network Rail main lines. Our water carriers have travelled far and wide, filling up steam locomotives at a great number of locations ranging from Exeter in Devon & St. Austell in Cornwall, Cardiff & Carmarthen in Wales, Canterbury and Folkestone in the South East, and as far north as Chester, Grantham, and Lincoln – and of course right across Southern England. We have also on occasions, by special request, travelled much further afield to Northern England and Scotland – furthest North so far is Dundee!
Our water carriers have standard portable fire pumps mounted on the back giving very quick tender fills, this has often allowed late trains to get away on time and in the process kept the service trains on Network Rail unhindered. Our speedy water fills have cut down the times a train is required to be stationary for water, and as a result has opened up additional ‘paths’ in some parts of Network Rail.
On arrival at the destination quite often the coaching stock as well as the locomotive needs servicing, this is also carried out by our water carriers – offering a complete solution for you.
Our water carriers are fully equipped fire service vehicles too and are used for fire safety. The water capacity of the water carriers ranges from 10,000 litres (2200 gallons) to 20,000 litres (4400 gallons), and the tanks are of stainless steel so there is no risk of rust contamination, for your peace of mind.
We have had great pleasure over the last few years in regularly supporting the Railway Trips of The Railway Touring Company, Steam Dreams, West Coast Railways, DB Schenker (formerly EWS), the A1 Trust, and members of the Steam Locomotive Owners Association (SLOA), by supplying water to Steam Locomotives and Coaching Stock.
